Who we are:

Queens Nest Farms Pty Ltd, spearheaded by Adelaide Yolanda Klow, an Agri-Prauner with a passion for sustainability, emerged in 2019 and commenced operations in 2020 amidst the tumultuous landscape of the COVID-19 pandemic. Situated on a sprawling 22-hectare farm in Tarlton, Johannesburg, the journey of Queens Nest Farms symbolizes resilience and commitment to promoting healthy food production practices and environmental stewardship.

In 2021 we were part of the first group of female farmers that planted Chilli for the Nandos group through Made with Rural as the Agrigator

Organic farming principles, including natural fertilizers and pest control methods, are central to their operations, fostering soil health and minimizing the introduction of harmful chemicals into the environment. Moreover, Queens Nest Farms champions the adoption of green energy, employing renewable sources such as solar power to curtail their carbon footprint and ensure long-term sustainability.

The benefits of organic farming as compared to traditional farming

     Organic farming
  • Utilizes natural practices to cultivate crops and raise livestock.
  • One of the primary benefits of organic farming is the absence of chemical pesticides and fertilizers.
  • Organic farmers rely on natural methods, such as crop rotation and the use of compost and manure, to nourish their soil and control pests.
  • Promotes healthier food production.
  • By avoiding the use of synthetic chemicals, organic farmers ensure that their crops are free from harmful residues.
  • Offers consumers a safer and healthier alternative to conventionally produced food.
  • encourages the preservation of genetic diversity.
    Traditional Farming
  • Heavily relies on synthetic fertilizers, which contribute to soil degradation and the pollution of water bodies through runoff.
  • Often relies on genetically modified organisms (GMOs) to enhance crop yields and resist pests
  • GMOs pose risks to the environment and can result in the loss of natural biodiversity.
  • The use of cover crops to prevent soil erosion and the implementation of water-saving irrigation methods are commonly employed in organic farming.
  • As consumers become increasingly aware of the importance of sustainable and healthy food production, the demand for organic products continues to grow.
